I've run in to a few issues I need to work out. There are changes in the "add in" model - and a simple recompile isn't enough.

I haven't decided on a release date yet - but will try to get a Blend 3 build out (with the existing functionallity) some time this month.

Having upgraded to Studio 3 for a while now, I'm missing this functionality. Is there a release date for an updated Blend 3 compatible version yet ?

I haven't started working on a Blend 3 version of the add-in yet - but I am in the process of planning a new release. The release will add support for authentication against proxies, support for ColourLovers.com, as well as support for Expression Studio 3 (hopefully Blend, Design AND Web this time around).

Let me know if you have any patch you want to contribute with - or if you want to join the project and get submit access to the source.

I pulled the source and set the Colorful.Blend.AddIn and Color.Design.AddIn projects to point to version 3 of the Microsoft.Expression.Framework assembly repectively in:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Expression\Blend 3 (version 3.0.1000.1000)

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Expression\Design 3 (version 3.0.0.2000)

Since Colorful.Control is used in both the Blend and Design AddIns I wasn't sure what to set it to, so I chose the one in Blend 3.

When I compile it, I get errors. Apparently, the namespace for IAddIn has changed and a Location property needs to be implemented. Also, the AddInDescription attribute cannot be found.

I will keep working on it. Any other suggestions?

Hi there,

just found the Colorful add-in today and it looks great - I'm about to get in and start giving it a good workout. Though I have a small bone to pick. The shortcut command line instructions are wrong it currently reads... -addin:Colorful.Design.AddIn.dll and it should read... /addin:Colorful.Design.AddIn.dll. Where the forward slash should be shown instead of the dash - makes all the difference, especially to a designer ;)

Notably all the sites I found with colorful listed had copied and pasted the codeplex instructions and so were all wrong. Hope that helps someone and thanks for the awesome extensions - really need more Design based tools out there to properly compete with the Flash community's mass body of excellent 3rd party tools and plugins.

It's really wonderful !!
I try realize, and i have 2 question.

1. when we start blend, then choice new project, it will show 4 kinds of the project model.
May i add my own project model in there ?

2. I start blend, open my project ( D:\ xx \ xxx \ test_1 ). Then start another blend, open another project ( D:\ zz \ zz \ zz \ test_2 )
How could i get the test_1 or test_2's path ?

Please give me some idea, thanks !!

There is a version of the code (not a release) that might work for you to get around the proxy authentication being required. It's not configurable, but does work through my work proxy. If you want I can email it to you (pm me on this), or you can build it yourself via the code in changeset 5979 onwards on the source code page: http://www.codeplex.com/colorful/SourceControl/ListDownloadableCommits.aspx

Hi There. I really like the tool, however I would like to make a suggestion. The addin does not work if you are using blend behind a firewall due to needing proxy authentication.
Can I suggest that the next version has the facility to set the proxy parameters as part of the addin parameters, or possibly through a configuration file.

Hi Bruce,

I'm quite sure the problem is that you don't have .NET 3.5 Service Pack 1 installed. Microsoft introduced some enhancements to WPF in .NET 3.5 SP1 that the Colorful Expression application take advantage off. For instance the support for using String.Format inside Binding Expressions. I actually took on this dependency by accident, and is considering rewriting the code to use my own String.Format ValueConverter instead. It's a fairly simple workaround and will remove the dependency for .NET 3.5 SP1 to be installed.

However, if you want to run the current release simply download .NET 3.5 SP1 from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7&displaylang=en).

Let me know if you still have issues.

This is a cool project and I was excited to try it. I downloaded and followed the instructions but it is not working for me.

The WPF app fails when launched. The error:

Blend 2.5 Preview Release is hanging on launch at the Blend splash screen.

Certainly this is a problem with my installation or something. I think I am up to date with the Expression 2 apps and Silverlight 2 beta 2. I've installed all of the Windows Updates too.
